Give Me Strength

Recently Brandon and I started institute and so far its been awesome!!! Today we were talking about Nephi and his brothers when they went to get the daughters of Ishmael. 1Nephi 7:17 says "But it came to pass that I prayed unto the Lord, saying: O Lord, according to my faith which is in thee, wilt thou deliver me from the hands of my brethren; yea, even give me strength that I may burst these bands with which I am bound."  I've heard this story and read through it many times and 1Nephi 7:17 has never really stood out to me until today. Nephi had just done something hard; he had just went to Jeruselum for the second time with his brothers and then his brother bound him and were planning to harm him. I think if I were in Nephi's shoes I probably would have just been praying for Heavenly Father to get me out of there. But I thought it was cool that Nephi didn't pray for his situation to change but that he could have the strength to change it.

Elder Bednar said "As you and I come to understand and employ the enabling power of the Atonement in our personal lives, we will pray and seek for strength to change our circumstances rather than praying for our circumstances to be changed." He also said "I do not think the bands with which Nephi was bound just magically fell from his hands and wrists. Rather, I suspect he was blessed with both persistence and personal strength beyond his natural capacity, that he then .. worked and twisted and tugged on the cords, and ultimately and literally was enabled to break the bands."

My life is amazing right now, but I thought this was a good reminder for when we face trials.

We also talked about the Tree of Life, and why Lehi stayed there calling to his family, instead of going back to them to bring them to the Tree. One of the students said that it could have been because when we reach where we are supposed to be, we shouldn't go back. If we put ourselves in a lower position than where we're supposed to be, it's harder to get back. That's why we should stay how we are and continue to improve, all the while encouraging our peers to do the same.

The Miracle

I had a moment similar to this HIMYM clip today. I was grocery shopping in Walmart and had to get one last thing, Diet Mt. Dew. It of course was the top shelf so I tipy toed up and got it but in the process I knocked another 2 liter bottle down. I totally thought it was going to explode but instead when it hit the flour it bounced and I was able to catch it. I got a few funny looks from people but I just put it up and hurried out of the isle.

1/16/13

So this last week has been a busy one and awesome. On Monday I went to Dixie State and officially was hired to be an art model. Its super part time though only 11 hours a week tops so I'm still looking for at least another part time job. I'm super excited about it though cause the teacher of the class is Dell Parsons who is a pretty popular artist in the Church. His favorite painting of mine is The Lost Lamb. Anywho I just think its going to be an awesome experience and I will be starting that next Wednesday :)  I also think I'm going to try and go back to school so yesterday I officially applied to Dixie State College. I'm a bit nervous but Brandon and Austin both keep telling me there sure I'll get in. So cross your fingers!!!  Today Brandon and I started Institute as well, our teacher is really great and the class seems pretty cool so far.

Brandon has been busy with school. His classes this semester are English, Honors, Spanish, Criminal Justice, and Automotive. So far he seems to really be enjoying all of them.

Almost three weeks!!!

I'll catch you up to what we have been up to since getting married. Our first week we both got the flu but my husband is super sweet and amazing and took great care of me, we had an awesome first Christmas ( he made me these awesome hand warmers :)!!!), after that we packed everything up and moved to St. George. On New Years Eve we spent the day in Vegas it was an absolute blast even though it was packed with crazies. The rest of the week we kind of got better settled in and just relaxed. We went to the temple Friday night and than drove to Provo for reception number 2 on Saturday. It was alot of fun and just laid back. Now we are back home again and Brandon just started school and we are working on getting jobs. Life is pretty great right now :)
